Remembering Briggs  The 50th anniversary of Briggs v. Elliot is being commemorated with a special medallion symbolizing the quest for equal educational opportunity in rural South Carolina and honoring the Rev. Joseph Delaney for his role in the case. Designed by noted African-American artist Preston Jackson, the medallion is a reminder of the importance of the school desegregation case filed in Clarendon County, South Carolina. It was one of five cases that became part of the historic Brown v Board of Education decision mandating school desegregation. The medal is being distributed by Brookgreen Gardens in South Carolina, a nature preserve, sculpture garden and learning center designated as a National Historic Landmark. Read more. |
