The Voices of Civil Rights project launched its National Bus
Tour on August 3, 2004, with a grand send-off on the National Mall
in Washington, D.C., attended by civil rights luminaries as well as
unsung heroes of the movement. The bus headed out on a 70-day odyssey
through 22 states and 39 cities, seeking the personal stories of ordinary
citizens who helped bring about positive social change.
