In her own words, photojournalist and editor Debra Utacia Krol covers “Indians.” The book editor of Native Peoples magazine, she is known throughout Indian Country as an up-and-coming force in Native American journalism. An enrolled member of the Xolon (Jolon) Salinan Tribe of central California, Debra has written for American Indian Report, Native Peoples, Arizona Highways, and America West magazines. In 2003, Debra authored a guide to Arizona Indian tourism, Crossing Paths. She is a member of the Native American Journalists’ Association and is a graduate of the UNITY: Journalists of Color Mentor Program. Debra hails from a long tradition of Native American civil rights advocates, including her mother and grandmother. She lives in Phoenix with her husband Ken.
