Esther Iverem

Esther Iverem is a journalist, author, and poet. Her film reviews regularly appear on SeeingBlack.com, a website she founded in 2001 for the dissemination of reviews and news from a black perspective. She is the author of a book of poems and photographs, The Time: Portrait of a Journey Home (Africa World Press) and a contributor to numerous anthologies, including Step Into a World: A Global Anthology of the New Black Literature, and The Garden Thrives: Twentieth-Century African American Poets. Her poem “What Do You Believe In?” was broadcast internationally as part of an October 2003 March on Washington on the National Mall. Esther is a former staff writer for The Washington Post, New York Newsday, and The New York Times, and is a contributing critic for BET.com. She is also the recipient of a National Arts Journalism Fellowship. A native of North Philadelphia, Esther lives with her son in Washington, D.C., where she also lectures and is at work on new books.
